I also hope the number of incidents that involve idiots is minimal. Unfortunately, I suspect that incidents involving the five-fingered discount may go up, given the state of the economy. Incidents involving the infamous yaoi paddles might be the deal this year as well, if all that I'm hearing about them means anything. I wonder if these people realize that randomly hitting someone without their permission is simple battery (battery if it bruises substantially), a misdemeanor, or God forbid, actually breaks something, a felony?
We'll just have to see.

Ms Paint is Love.
On the other hand, I also have a Bachelor of Science in Management, and it's helping to make the art show run as smoothly as possible. There will always be hiccups; no plan survives contact with the enemy, after all, but that's why we have people staffing these things.
I guess I could say something about the six item limit thing and the reservation of space. I took over the Art Show after AWA 7 (2001), and at the time, I almost had literally nothing in terms of material to work with. As a result, I used some of the old rules while I tried to get a working balance with the new material (mostly the metal grid wall panels, but also a computer, point-of-sale software, etc.). Now that the Art Show has its material needs mostly taken care of, I can focus my attention on some of the mechanics of doing business with the artists. Truth be told, I have been uncomfortable ever since I took over as director about the way things were done, so they're being looked at right now.
An explanation on why certain rules exist might be beneficial:
-six item limit: In the past, we constantly ran out of space until AWA 10, where I managed to double the panel space without actually buying new panels. The matted/mounted/frame rule also cut down on the number of entries being entered into the show for obvious reasons.
-no reservation of panels for walk-ins: This one stems from the fact that I didn't really have a good system in place to deal with this, nevermind mail-ins. Here, I was pretty much starting from scratch. One of the reasons why the mail-in rules were not published on the website was that I wanted to work small and iron out some kinks as I go along.
The two above, among others, will be under revision for AWA 12.
